Chiller Replacement
Description
IPS was commissioned to provide engineering design services for the replacement of aging 300-ton centrifugal chillers, primary chilled water pumps, condenser water pumps, and cooling towers serving critical DNA laboratories.
This project utilized 3D laser scanning of the mechanical room to accurately locate piping, valves, and equipment on the new work drawings. This step provided greater accuracy than traditional field measurements and was done without any piping as-built or record drawings.
New control sequences were provided for optimum energy savings from variable frequency drives on chillers, condenser water pumps, secondary chilled water pumps, and cooling towers.
The new chiller system replacement and controls upgrades saved the client an estimated $5,000 per year in energy savings.
