IPS provided project management services to oversee the design and construction of a cafeteria and lobby renovation. The project underwent a complete interior renovation—the lobby and restrooms were upgraded, as well as the food service equipment in the existing corporate kitchen and servery operation. Non-operational equipment was replaced with the gas-based equivalent and existing walk-in coolers and freezers were replaced with new.

Throughout the project, IPS worked closely with the client and representatives of the café to provide creative solutions and involve all stakeholders. The café and lobby now feature high-end finishes, specialty acoustic treatments, and polished concrete highlighted throughout the space. In addition to the interior finishes, the project included lead paint abatement and saw-cuts on concrete slab on grade to accommodate new plumbing and a new PG&E gas line for gas-based kitchen equipment. The now large and open catering kitchen doubles as an all-hands meeting space.

All construction was completed during working hours while the building remained occupied, so logistics planning was critical to ensure safe, continuous operations and employee and visitor safety throughout the project. IPS worked with contractors to set up visqueen and plywood barriers to protect occupants from dust and debris, and clear signage was posted to direct employees away from the construction zone. Continued access to food service was also a priority, so temporary areas were established for employees, including a trailer for food preparation, a temporary freezer, and grab-and-go stations throughout the space.
