Flex Train Expansion
Description
The client’s Fremont campus required the design and construction of a 2000-sf Flex Train suite. The project involved the expansion of the existing Flex Train 2K bioreactor manufacturing facility.
The facility now holds a new 2,000 L bioreactor, an upgraded IS0-7 cleanroom lab with associated supporting equipment, and a new area for upstream, downstream, media prep, buffer prep, storage, and personnel/material movement. Upgrades to the building infrastructure include the installation of a new air handling unit, a high plume exhaust fan system, lab VAV exhaust, emergency power system upgrade, modification of the existing process piping and lab waste and vent systems, and a controls upgrade. The HVAC systems consist of air handling units with reheat terminals that operate continuously with 100% outside air. The retrofit converted the HVAC systems from constant air volume with pneumatic controls to variable air volume with DDC controls down to the zone level. Phoenix valves were added to the supply and exhausts to allow for VAV operation. Fume hoods were converted to VAV with occupancy sensors to set back face velocity when unoccupied.
IPS’s innovative safety processes led to zero incidents of significance on the project.
