Generator Reactivation
Description
IPS provided design and project management services to reactivate a 50MW generator in San Jose, CA. IPS managed the overall programming and construction of the project and supplied an electrical engineer to design the new generator. The project also comprised of the installation for a new 10,000-gallon diesel tank and a 20,000-gallon diesel tank with pump skid systems. Both support the reactivation effort of the existing emergency power diesel turbine 50MW generator.
A design-build approach expedited design for the mechanical and electrical systems. IPS provided early coordination with trade partners, potentially cost-saving design analyses, schedule management, and review assessments to ensure the project met state, federal, and EH&S codes. With early collaboration between all key stakeholders and consultants, critical milestones were achieved sooner than initially planned. In addition, the client experienced sufficient cost savings and a seamless transition to the build phase.
IPS coordinated with AHJ requirements for electrical and building permits, met regulations relating to emissions and fuel storage, and collaborated with PG&E. This one-of-a-kind facility upgrade not only represents a complex, technical multi-phase approach, but is a primary example of IPS’s values related to quality, safety, and integrity.
